This is another one of my favorite weddings from the archives. I met Kate and Justin over two years ago when her dad reached out to me. He was helping plan their wedding, and, after a group Zoom call, we all decided we’d be a great fit. We met up a few weeks later for their engagement session at a bar in Denton where we had the place to ourselves and took shots of Jameson. We bonded a lot that day, as one does when sharing shots of Jameson, and their fall backyard wedding in Fort Worth later that year was an absolute rager.

The wedding was being held in the backyard of Kate’s childhood home. Kate and her bridesmaids got ready at her house, and the groomsmen got ready at her longtime neighbor’s just nextdoor. The backyard was being set up with catering, a ceremony space, dancefloor, and bar while everyone got ready inside.

ps – If you’re a fellow millennial, you may recognize one of the groomsmen as Chris Burney from Bowling for Soup! (How fucking cool!?)

We ran inside to sign their marriage license on the kitchen island then went outside to take photos.
Fort Worth Backyard Wedding Details
I loved the details at this wedding. They were super simple and personal, but totally reflected Kate and Justin’s personalities. Little bottles of champagne to pop, an open bar, plenty of their favorite snacks, and great music for their guests to enjoy.
If you’ve read any of my other posts, you probably know that I’m a big fan of a big white tent at a wedding. I just love the feel of it, and it always means that the reception is going to be a banger. The dancefloor set up by her family was perfect for a backyard wedding. But, I think my favorite part was the bar cart. Kate’s a badass bartender at a local spot, so she got her crew to come set up and sling drinks. It was perfect.
