I met Josh a few years ago when I moved to McKinney. He worked at one of my favorite local spots and made the best cucumber coolers! Tiler and I would go up there weekly for a while there to get their wings and hang out after work. I was so excited to hear from him when he started planning his proposal to his longtime girlfriend, Mary Kate. He had always had the dream of proposing in a hot air balloon (which, adorable, amirite?) so we had to wait out the fall weather for the perfect day. This meant getting the okay the night before and waking up at 4am to meet them at sunrise. With a giant smile on my face and a coffee in my cupholder, I set out to meet them for a hot air balloon tour of McKinney.

McKinney Hot Air Balloon
We waited anxiously while Mary Kate’s best friend drove her to the hot air balloon grounds. When she walked up, Josh wasted no time in getting down on one knee. They were so happy – she said yes! They were officially engaged! The only thing to do now was to take the hot air balloon ride over McKinney. (Did I mention I’m afraid of heights?) When we got up there, we were welcomed by the most beautiful view of North Texas. It was so quiet and still – such a perfect place to reflect on the moment. I snapped a few photos, grabbed the railing (lol), and let them enjoy the view. When we went to set down in a field, we landed right next to a boy scout troop camping overnight. They were so stoked to see us and helped us guide the basket through some bushes.
Shoutout to the cool guys from Dallas-Fort Worth Hot Air Balloons: Rohr Balloons for being cool and toasting the trip with champagne. Highly recommend them if you’re looking for a DFW hot air balloon proposal!
